Recap: Wilkinson County Wildcats vs. Bay Springs Bulldogs
The Wilkinson County Wildcats''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Bay Springs on the road and fell 70-6. Wilkinson County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-0.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bay Springs to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaylen Flowers, who rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for six yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Jaylen Gammage also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Wilkinson County's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-1 Loyd Star and 7-4 South Pike (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.1% over those games). As for Bay Springs, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.
Wilkinson County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Bay Springs will face off against Heidelberg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Heidelberg is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
