Softball Game Preview: Snook Bluejays vs. Burton Panthers

Snook is 2-8 against Burton since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Bluejays will face off against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m.

Things were looking good for Snook after they put the first runs on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Iola by a score of 10-9. While the Bluejays didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 4-0 in the first period.

Aubrey Becker put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Braynija Pool made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Marissa Batiste, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Burton never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Milano on Friday. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 10-7.

Burton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Snook, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15-1.

Snook suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Burton in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Bluejays avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
