Football Preview: Mildred Eagles vs. Rio Vista Eagles
Two dominant wideouts in Ashton Frye and Ashton Huey are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mildred Eagles will take on the Rio Vista Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mildred will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Friday, Mildred humbled Cross Roads with a 50-6 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.
Mildred found their leader in sophomore Luke McKendree, who threw for 120 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Mildred also got a significant boost from Frye, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.
Meanwhile, Rio Vista unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 51-42 to Valley Mills.
Rio Vista's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaiden Scott, who threw for 281 yards and four touchdowns, and Huey, who picked up 151 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Huey is becoming a predictor of Rio Vista's success: when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Tate Conley did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 37 receiving yards.
