Basketball Recap: Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Skates Past Heritage Academy with Ease

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy posted their biggest victory since January 29th on Monday. They breezed by the Heritage Academy Heroes to the tune of 56-13. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Heroes are ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Maeve Morgan, who almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, nine boards, and nine steals. That's the most boards she has posted since back in December of 2023. Ashtyn Wolf was another key player, putting up 15 points and three steals.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage Academy only posted two assists.

Heritage Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nancy James, who posted no points along with six boards and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Lopez, who had six points.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.7 points per game. As for Heritage Academy, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy and Heritage Academy's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Scottsdale Preparatory Academy and Rancho Solano Prep (who has only given up 29 points per game) will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Heritage Academy and Phoenix Country Day (who has only given up 29.67 points per game) will meet at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
