Softball Recap: Westridge Tigers vs. Mayfield Cubs

Westridge extended their losing streak to 11 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-13-1 in the process. They lost 23-5 to the Mayfield Cubs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cubs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-6 last Tuesday.

Marysa Ybarra led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Lilah Rangel was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Mayfield, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-10-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Mayfield's side, Harlinn Moriarty made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Moriarty has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaz Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played.
