Basketball Recap: Westwood Comes Up Short

Westwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lugoff-Elgin Demons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Demons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-57 back in January.

Braylen Mumford was nothing short of spectacular for Lugoff-Elgin: he went 7 for 12 en route to 17 points in addition to six assists and six steals. Kaleb Long was another key player, putting up 17 points and five rebounds.

Westwood's loss dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Lugoff-Elgin, their win bumped their record up to 14-10.

Coming up, Westwood will venture away from home to challenge West Florence at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Westwood is facing West Florence at the right time seeing as West Florence is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Spring Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lugoff-Elgin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season.
