Softball Recap: Varina Blue Devils vs. Hermitage Panthers
Varina came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 22-5 to the Hermitage Panthers. The Blue Devils haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Julia Anderson and Taneah Hicks stepped up to the plate in a big way. Anderson went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Hicks scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave Hicks a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elaina Montalvo, who scored a run and stole three bases.
Varina's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Hermitage, the win also got them back to even at 1-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Varina will host Petersburg at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hermitage, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Hermitage Panthers duke it out with Deep Run Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be their first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
