Baseball Recap: Wayne County Gets the Win

Wayne County hadn't done well against Stone recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wayne County War Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over the Stone Tomcats. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the War Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Brayson Graham made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Hudsen Mills and Jacob Bowles did most of the damage at the plate: Mills scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Bowles scored a run while going 1-for-3. Bowles also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Wayne County is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Dallen Holifield, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Wayne County now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Stone, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Wayne County will have a chance to go back-to-back against Stone: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
