Baseball Game Preview: Powhatan Indians vs. Monacan Chiefs

The Powhatan Indians will head out on the road to take on the Monacan Chiefs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Powhatan proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by nine) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Prince George, sneaking past 4-2. While the Indians didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Monacan posted their closest victory since April 25, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Matoaca 6-5.

Powhatan is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Monacan, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-4-1.

Powhatan might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Monacan when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
