Volleyball Recap: Alexis Godard and Lanie Richardson Secure Win for Auburndale

Marathon typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Auburndale proved too difficult a challenge. They skirted past the Red Raiders 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Red Raiders: they've now won three in a row.

Auburndale wouldn't go down easily and took Marathon into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-16, 26-28, 22-25, 18-16.

Leading Auburndale to victory were Lanie Richardson and Alexis Godard. Richardson had nine digs and one assist, while Godard had five digs and four aces. Those five digs gave Godard a new career-high.

They weren't the only good servers: Auburndale was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in three consecutive matches.

Auburndale's record is now 20-12. As for Marathon, their loss ended a four-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Auburndale will challenge Pittsville at 7:00 p.m. on the 16th. As for Marathon, they will face off against Pacelli at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
