Basketball Game Preview: Waterford Wolverines vs. Elkhorn Elks

The Waterford Wolverines will venture away from home to challenge the Elkhorn Elks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Waterford will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Burlington, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Waterford enjoyed a cozy 70-52 win over Burlington on Tuesday. 70 seems to be a good number for the Wolverines as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Meanwhile, Elkhorn had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.6 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Broncos as they made off with a 69-46 win. Given the Elks' advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Broncos are ranked 294th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Waterford's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points over those games. As for Elkhorn, their win bumped their record up to 14-5.

Waterford beat Elkhorn 61-50 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Waterford since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
