Football Game Preview: Mercer Island Islanders vs. Renton Red Hawks + How To Watch

The Mercer Island Islanders will venture away from home to take on the Renton Red Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Mercer Island's win against Newport - Bellevue wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Islanders pulled ahead with a 23-22 photo finish over the Knights on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Islanders in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.

Among those leading the charge was David James Jr., who picked up 102 receiving yards and one TD. Dillon Carroll was another key player, having thrown for 282 yards and onetouchdown.

Mercer Island didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Newport - Bellevue to a completion percentage of just 41.7%. The Islanders weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 62.2%.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Renton). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 70-21 win over Redmond. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Red Hawks had established a 42-point advantage.

Mercer Island's record now sits at 2-3. As for Renton, their record is now 4-1.

Everything came up roses for Mercer Island against Renton in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 70-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Islanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
