Springport barely beat Hillsdale the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Hornets  a   10-0 shutout  on Friday. Considering the Spartans have won six contests by more than five  runs this season, Friday's  blowout was nothing new.
 Marshall Shoemaker was a  major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he  kept things locked down with   no  earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't  given up  more than two  hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-3 with four  RBI, one  run,  and one  double. Those  four  RBI gave  him a new career-high.
 In other batting news,  Gibson Overweg was  excellent,  going 2-for-3 with two  runs and two  doubles. Those  two  hits gave  him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was  Drew Kregel, who  went a perfect 2-for-2 with two  RBI and one  run.
 Springport  hit smart and  finished the game with only two  strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters  in four consecutive  games.
Springport is  on a roll lately: they've  won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record  this season. As for Hillsdale,  they are  on  a  ten-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 3-16.
 Both  squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springport will venture away from home to  face off against Maple Valley  at 4:15  p.m.  on Tuesday. As for Hillsdale, they will take on Camden-Frontier at 10:00  a.m.  on Saturday. The Hornets are facing the Redskins at the right time seeing as the Redskins are stuck on  a  five-game losing streak.
