Baseball Recap: Shoemaker Takes a Loss

Shoemaker was the 4-2 winner over Copperas Cove when they last played one another last Friday, but their luck changed this time around. The Wolves fell just short of the Bulldawgs by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday.

Joephillip Guzman was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Guzman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Shoemaker has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-10-2 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Copperas Cove, they moved to 9-12-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Shoemaker will challenge rival Harker Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Copperas Cove is set to take on their familiar foe Midway at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
