Preview: Lamar County Trojans vs. Mary Persons Bulldogs
The Lamar County Trojans on the road again on Saturday and play against the Mary Persons Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. on January 13th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Lamar County is ranked 100th, while Mary Persons is ranked 123rd).
Last Saturday, Lamar County earned a 47-40 victory over Upson-Lee.
Shakiria Foster was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Foster is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Zakiria Foster was another key contributor, scoring two points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Mary Persons had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 71-41 victory over Pike County. Mary Persons has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 30 points or more this season.
Lamar County's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. As for Mary Persons, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
Lamar County was able to grind out a solid win over Mary Persons in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 57-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lamar County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
