Volleyball Recap: Lee's Summit West Comes Up Short

If Lee's Summit West was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Raymore-Peculiar on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Titans fell just short of the Rockhurst Hawklets by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Titans haven't had much luck with the Hawklets recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Lee's Summit West started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 22-25, 25-13, 25-12, 17-15.

Sam Morgan paced Lee's Summit West's offense, picking up 20 kills. Morgan got some help from Kolby Drinnen and his 38 assists. Drinnen was also solid from the service line: he led the team with three aces.

Rockhurst was led to victory by Philip Pfeiffer and Cooper Nickle. Pfeiffer had ten digs and four assists, while Nickle had six digs and one assist.

Lee's Summit West's defeat dropped their record down to 16-5-1. As for Rockhurst, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-4.

Lee's Summit West and Rockhurst should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings. The Titans will square off against East at 4:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (15 vs. 70). Meanwhile, Rockhurst (ranked seventh) will meet St. Pius X (ranked 69th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
