Football Recap: Heritage Piles Up the Points Against Salem

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Heritage). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Salem Seminoles 50-20. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Seminoles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Joshua Taylor produced another solid performance rushing for 209 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 114.5 rushing yards per game.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Heritage was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 384 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Heritage didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ryan Cooper and Jeremiah Taylor. Heritage got some further help from Jah'Meer West: he picked up four sacks and made eight total tackles.

Salem lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ian Morris, who rushed for 63 yards and one score, and also picked up 36 receiving yards. Kadine McAlister also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.

Heritage's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Salem, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-3 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Heritage will square off against Grayson at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Patriots will need to watch out since the Rams have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games. As for Salem, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Atlanta at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th.
