Basketball Recap: Vidalia Takes Down Elbert County in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Vidalia rose to the challenge on Friday. They snuck past the Elbert County Blue Devils with a 44-38 victory. The Indians are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 14 straight.

Vidalia had a senior duo take command as Hannah Nichols posted 13 points and four steals and Cori Warner had six points along with 12 boards and five assists. Warner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Vidalia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 57 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Vidalia's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.9 points over those games. As for Elbert County, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 24-5.

Coming up, Vidalia will be playing in front of their home fans against East Laurens at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Laurens knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Vidalia likes a good challenge. Elbert County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
