The No. 1 team in the nation travels up to Utah for a rematch of one of last year's biggest challenges.
Video: (1) Bishop Gorman vs. Bingham - High school football preview
The top team in the nation heads up to Utah to face a team it barely beat last season.Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) at Bingham (South Jordan, Utah)Why it's big: Bishop Gorman (1-0) wants to avoid becoming the second No. 1 team in the Xcellent 25 to lose in as many weeks, but it won't be easy. The Gaels needed overtime to beat Bingham at home last season, and this one will be at Bingham -- where the Miners have lost only twice since 2006.
Bingham recorded shutouts in both of its first two games. That's the good news. A reason for concern is the Miners scored only six points in their own right in a win over Herriman (West Herriman) last week.
Names to watch: Biaggio Walsh – grandson of iconic fighter Muhammad Ali – ran for 100 yards with 66 receiving yards and two touchdowns in Gorman's 35-14 win against Chandler (Ariz.) last week. The versatile running back joins five-star quarterback
Tate Martell (a Texas A&M recruit) and five-star receiver
Tyjon Lindsey as the top trio of junior playmakers in the nation.
The strength of Bingham's stifling defense is found in its front seven. The unit includes four-star defensive end
Langi Tuifua (Oregon) and four-star tackle
Jayleen Tufele, both juniors. Seniors
Parker Workman and
Simian Matagi (Utah State) are two of Utah's top linebackers.
