Football Preview: Navasota Rattlers vs. Needville Bluejays
After each having a week off, the Navasota Rattlers and the Needville Bluejays will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Navasota is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Navasota was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 34-30 to La Grange.
Navasota wouldn't let La Grange keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Ashten Myles was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance. He also set a new season high mark in total tackles with 17. Another thorn in La Grange's side was Kyle Taylor, who made 19 total tackles and defended two passes.
Meanwhile, Needville was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were beaten by Sealy 55-17. The match marked the Bluejays' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Despite their defeat, Needville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jamarkus Jack, who picked up 79 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 64 yards on only eight carries, was perhaps the best of all. Jack's longest reception was for an incredible 70 yards.
Navasota now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Needville, they now also have a losing record at 2-3.
Friday's contest might be decided in the on the ground. Navasota has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 154.6 rushing yards per game.
