Northwestern is a perfect 10-0 against Barron since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Tigers will host the Golden Bears at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Northwestern sitting on four straight victories and Barron on five.
Northwestern's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Cameron.
Northwestern saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellie Peterson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Northwestern hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cameron struck out 14 times.
Meanwhile, Barron had just enough and edged out Ashland 6-5 on Tuesday.
Kailynn Duncan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Maggie Cole was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Micahlee Skjerly was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one stolen base.
Barron's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Northwestern, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Everything went Northwestern's way against Barron in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Northwestern made off with a 16-0 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Golden Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
