Basketball Recap: Mount Pleasant Comes Up Short

Mount Pleasant suffered their biggest defeat since February 22nd on Friday. They were outmatched by the Porter Ridge Pirates and fell 55-20. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while the Pirates are ranked 55th).

Porter Ridge found their leader in sophomore Ashanti Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and ten boards. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Taylor has scored at least a third of Porter Ridge's points. Another player making a difference was Kali Williams, who posted 17 points and seven rebounds.

Mount Pleasant's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Porter Ridge, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount Pleasant will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gray Stone Day at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Porter Ridge and Hough will round out the year against one another at at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Porter Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season.
