Baseball Recap: Bennington Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Bennington couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Gretna East Griffins by a score of 2-0 on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Badgers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Brandt Schmidt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

With the defeat, Bennington broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 29-5. As for Gretna East, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-10.
