Basketball Recap: Sandy Creek Takes a Loss

If Sandy Creek was riding high fresh off their 59-32 takedown of Heartland on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sandy Creek Cougars fell just short of the Thayer Central Titans by a score of 35-32 on Saturday. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Titans recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Thayer Central was led to victory by Paige Tietjen and Leah Havel. Tietjen went 6 for 13 en route to 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Havel posted 12 points and eight boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Tietjen has scored at least a third of Thayer Central's points. Olivia Wiedel also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

Sandy Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Thayer Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Sandy Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-46 victory against Fairbury on the 28th. As for Thayer Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 44-28 win against Tri County on the 28th.
