Football Game Preview: Coronado Cougars vs. Chaparral Cowboys

The Coronado Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Chaparral Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Coronado's defense has only allowed 12.9 points per game this season, so Chaparral's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Coronado's usually-dominant defense will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Virgin Valley offense got past them. Coronado had to suffer through a 39-12 loss at the hands of Virgin Valley. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Chaparral owes their defense a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They breezed by Cimarron-Memorial to the tune of 28-0. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 20 points or more this season.

Chaparral is also on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.8 points per game. As for Coronado, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.

Everything came up roses for Coronado against Chaparral in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 43-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Coronado since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
