Football Recap: Rivera Comes Up Short

Rivera came into this matchup off a tough 43-point loss last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Harlingen South Hawks by a score of 16-13 on Thursday. The Raiders lost against the Hawks in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 56-21 score last time.

Ivan Rodriguez threw for 64 yards and one TD. On the ground, Gabriel Gonzalez rushed for 116 yards.

Austen Shroyer was his usual excellent self, throwing for 221 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 73 yards on only ten carries for Harlingen South. Those 73 rushing yards gave Shroyer a new career-high.

This is the second loss in a row for Rivera and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Harlingen South, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Rivera is set to face off against their familiar foe Donna at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. Meanwhile, Harlingen South will take on rival Donna North at 7:30 p.m. on the 26th.
