Baseball Game Preview: Galena Park Yellowjackets vs. Austin Mustangs

Galena Park has gone a perfect 8-0 against Austin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets will head out to challenge the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Galena Park has 20 straight victories, Austin has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Thursday, Galena Park made easy work of Westbury and carried off an 11-3 win. Considering the Yellowjackets have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Daniel Gomez spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Galena Park got a massive performance out of Jesus Resendez, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Resendez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Lamas, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Waltrip hit Austin with a ten-run first inning last Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs lost 11-0 to the Rams.

Galena Park's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Austin, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

Galena Park took their victory against Austin in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. Do the Yellowjackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
