Softball Recap: Mohawk Takes a Loss

Mohawk extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 7-11. They lost 14-3 to the Central Linn Cobras. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cobras apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Mohawk saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miley Sherman, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Central Linn, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-11. Considering they have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Central Linn's side, Callie Northern made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Northern has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Diaz, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayla Moore, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

While Mohawk had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
