Baseball Recap: Evansville Reitz Comes Up Short

Evansville Reitz extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-8 in the process. They lost 14-2 to the Evansville North Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 last Thursday.

Evansville Reitz saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon McCutchan, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Evansville North, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games.

On Evansville North's side, Gideon Rice was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Rice a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Conner Watson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evansville Reitz will challenge Evansville Bosse at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.75 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Evansville North, they will square off against Evansville Mater Dei at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last four games the Wildcats have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
