Softball Recap: Astronaut's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

Astronaut dropped their record down to 11-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Rockledge Raiders by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-5 back in March.

Riley Miller spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Astronaut saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ciara Vansky, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Rockledge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since February 27th.

On Rockledge's side, they also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Haley Smith gave up a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks.

Looking ahead, Astronaut will head out to challenge Space Coast at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the War Eagles 3.5, the Vipers 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Rockledge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Melbourne at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
