Basketball Recap: Elijah Stephens' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sage Creek over Victory Christian Academy

If Sage Creek was feeling good fresh off their 67-45 takedown of Mission Vista on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sage Creek Bobcats fell 62-52 to the Victory Christian Academy Knights on Saturday.

Sage Creek lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Elijah Stephens, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Kayden Naccarato, who posted 12 points.

Victory Christian Academy was led to victory by Isaiah Owens and Troy Tominna. Owens went 7 for 9 to rack up 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Tominna went 8 of 16 on his way to 21 points. Those 21 points gave Tominna a new career-high. Angel Ochoa was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

Sage Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Victory Christian Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-12.

Coming up, Sage Creek will head out on the road to take on San Dieguito Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for San Dieguito Academy: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Sage Creek has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road. As for Victory Christian Academy, they will welcome Montgomery at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Montgomery's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
