Basketball Game Preview: Houlka Wildcats vs. Calhoun City Wildcats

The Houlka Wildcats will square off against the Calhoun City Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Houlka is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

Last Friday, Houlka strolled past Thrasher with points to spare, taking the game 59-43.

Jerome Staton and Elijah Foster were among the main playmakers for Houlka as the former went 9 of 17 on his way to 21 points and the latter almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards. What's more, Foster also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Dee Simon, who posted two points in addition to ten assists and three steals.

Calhoun City has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They received a blow on Friday as they fell 61-45 to Coffeeville. The contest marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Houlka is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Calhoun City, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.

Houlka came up short against Calhoun City in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 58-48. Can Houlka avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
