Volleyball Recap: Gilmour Academy Lancers vs. Huron Tigers

Gilmour Academy won the last time they faced Huron and things went their way on Saturday too. The Lancers walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Tigers. Surprisingly, this marked the Lancers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Gilmour Academy got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-22, 22-25, 30-28.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gilmour Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mira Siebert, who had seven digs and six aces. Those six aces gave Siebert a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Avery Martin, who had 18 digs.

Adelyn Van Sickle and Avery Bork certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Van Sickle had 17 digs and one assist, while Bork had nine digs. Van Sickle has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last four times she's played. Maggie Orzech also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.

Gilmour Academy now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Huron, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.

The Lancers (ranked 29th) will meet Walsh Jesuit (ranked 136th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Huron will face off against Vermilion at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (124 vs. 516).
