Softball Recap: St. Joseph Comes Up Short

St. Joseph extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They came up short against the Serra Catholic Eagles, falling 15-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 16-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

As for Serra Catholic, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 10-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

For Serra Catholic's part, Kelly Morrissey made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Morrissey has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Serra Catholic got a massive performance out of Keyara Watkins, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave Watkins a new career-high. Natalie Morgart was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

While St. Joseph had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
