Softball Game Preview: Brighton Bulldogs vs. Canton Cobras

Brighton hasn't had much luck against Canton recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will challenge the Cobras at 4:00 p.m. Brighton will be strutting in after a win while Canton will be coming in after a defeat.

Brighton took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Detroit Country Day. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Eryn McClendon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Ava Heaney was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anna Minnick, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Canton fell victim to Stevenson and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 15-0 to the Spartans. The loss continues a trend for the Cobras in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost five in a row.

Canton's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Brighton, their victory bumped their record up to 3-13.

Brighton suffered a grim 12-4 defeat to Canton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
