It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Orange Grove ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 12-9 win over the Mathis Pirates. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Malorie Velasco spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Makayla Velasco was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Daniella Segovia, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Orange Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They got six more hits than Mathis' also-impressive total of 12.

Orange Grove's win bumped their record up to 10-15-1. As for Mathis, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-7-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Orange Grove beat the Pirates by a score of 13-8 later that day.
