Baseball Recap: Wabasha-Kellogg Victorious

Wabasha-Kellogg won the last time they faced Kenyon-Wanamingo and things went their way on Saturday too. The Falcons walked away with a 5-1 win over the Knights.

Cole Scheel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Wabasha-Kellogg is 2-1 when Scheel allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-9 otherwise. Scheel was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Garret Pavelka was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Hill, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Wabasha-Kellogg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

Wabasha-Kellogg's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Kenyon-Wanamingo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wabasha-Kellogg will head out to take on Goodhue at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kenyon-Wanamingo, they will venture away from home to challenge Triton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
