Basketball Recap: Cedar Valley Falls Short Against Ranked Wasatch

On Friday, Cedar Valley faced Wasatch in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Cedar Valley Aviators took a 51-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wasatch Wasps. The loss continues a trend for the Aviators in their matchups with the Wasps: they've now lost six in a row.

Wasatch got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Danielle Garner out in front who went 8 for 12 on her way to 16 points and seven rebounds. What's more, Garner also racked up three assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mahala Speredon, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards.

Cedar Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Wasatch, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cedar Valley will venture away from home to take on Springville at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Springville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Wasatch, they are taking a road trip to challenge Maple Mountain at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Wasatch is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.
