Basketball Recap: Carrollton Comes Up Short

Carrollton was the 57-41 winner over Staunton when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Hawks received a blow on Saturday as they fell 78-64 to the Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 379th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 42nd).

Staunton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isiah Laux out in front who shot 82% from the field en route to 23 points along with six assists and five rebounds. The last time Laux's shooting accuracy was this high was back in February of 2025. Luke Moore was another key player, going 7-for-11 to rack up 19 points.

Carrollton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.6 points over those games. As for Staunton, their record now sits at 13-1.

Looking ahead, Carrollton will take on Seymour at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Staunton, they will challenge PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
