Softball Game Preview: Desert Mountain Wolves vs. Mountain Pointe Pride

The Desert Mountain Wolves will square off against the Mountain Pointe Pride at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert Mountain is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.

Desert Mountain is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Boulder Creek, who was ranked sixth at the time (Desert Mountain was ranked third). Desert Mountain put the hurt on Boulder Creek with a sharp 10-2 victory last Friday. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Emmy Raines made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Desert Mountain let Cyan De Luigi and Eve Huczek run wild. De Luigi scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Huczek went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Those two runs gave De Luigi a new career-high. Giana DeSpirito was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.

Meanwhile, Mountain Pointe beat Westwood 11-8 on Saturday. The Pride haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Desert Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 10-1-1. As for Mountain Pointe, they now have a winning record of 7-6-1.

Desert Mountain skirted past Mountain Pointe 2-0 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will Desert Mountain repeat their success, or does Mountain Pointe has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
