Baseball Recap: Pearland Takes a Loss

Pearland fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Dawson on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 5-1 to the Eagles. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Nicholas Partida was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Pearland got a good showing from Jaden Ornelas, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ornelas has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

Pearland's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Dawson, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-6.

While Pearland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
