Football Recap: Eupora's Undefeated Season over After Six Games

Eupora started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Velma Jackson. They took a 24-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons on Friday. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Falcons 8-0 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Eupora lost, don't look at Peyton Perkins. Despite the final result, he rushed for 196 yards and one TD while picking up 10.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 26 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Perkins' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 101 rushing yards.

A big part of Velma Jackson's victory came down to the chemistry between Trevon Willis and his top target Demontre Strange. Willis gained 190 total yards and two touchdowns while Strange rushed for 85 yards and one score. Willis also rushed for 168 rushing yards, which is notable because Velma Jackson is 2-1 when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.

Having lost for the first time this season, Eupora fell to 5-1. As for Velma Jackson, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season.

Eupora will host J.Z. George at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will be up against the Jaguars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.33 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Velma Jackson, they will challenge Kemper County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
