Baseball Game Preview: Sandia Prep Sundevils vs. Cobre Indians

The Sandia Prep Sundevils will head out to square off against the Cobre Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sandia Prep has three straight wins, Cobre has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Sandia Prep's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Dexter. The Sundevils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by nine runs or more this season.

Jonas Mahboub and Logan Lemons did most of the damage at the plate: Mahboub got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Lemons went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Lemons is becoming a predictor of Sandia Prep's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Hardcastle, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Cobre and Hatch Valley, and Hatch Valley kept the tradition alive. The Indians fell just short of the Bears by a score of 7-6 on Saturday.

Aaron Harrington made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Hunter Montes, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Sandia Prep now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Cobre, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-10.

Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sandia Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324.
