Baseball Recap: South Decatur Has No Trouble Against Tri

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South Ripley, South Decatur was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Tri Titans. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

JP Scudder and Grady Scudder made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Scudder pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Grady struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because South Decatur is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-6 otherwise. At bat, Scudder went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Grady got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Corbin Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Drake Scaggs, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

South Decatur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive contests.

South Decatur has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Tri, their record is now 2-15-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Decatur will welcome Hauser at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jets will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Tri, they will be playing at home against Union County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.56 runs per game on average), something the Titans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
