Softball Recap: Foothill Falcons vs. San Ramon Valley Wolves

Foothill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the San Ramon Valley Wolves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Foothill of the 8-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Foothill saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexa Sponsel, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Even though they lost, Foothill didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with seven strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.

On San Ramon Valley's side, Lila Mcleod was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Mcleod has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in four consecutive pitching appearances. Mcleod was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

In other batting news, Addie Layous was incredible, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sophia Jin, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Foothill's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for San Ramon Valley, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-8.

Foothill will square off against Vintage at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Vintage will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Foothill surely won't give up without a fight. As for San Ramon Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
