Volleyball Recap: Liberal Bulldogs vs. Jefferson Independent Day Cavaliers

Liberal was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to the Jefferson Independent Day Cavaliers. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavaliers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.

While Liberal had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-18.

Despite the loss, Liberal still got an impressive performance from Libby Stebbins, who had 23 digs. Stebbins is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 19 or more in the last four games she's played dating back to last season.

Leading Jefferson Independent Day to victory were Lead Studer and Lannah Grigg. Studer had 17 digs, five kills, and 38 assists, while Grigg had 18 digs, 12 kills, six blocks, and four aces. That's the most blocks Grigg has posted since back in September. Maggie Sutton was another key player, getting 24 digs and a kill.

Liberal's defeat dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Jefferson Independent Day, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8-2 record this season.

Liberal wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-2 victory against Midway on the 15th. Jefferson Independent Day has also already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Bronaugh on the 15th.
