Volleyball Game Preview: Widefield Gladiators vs. Coronado Cougars

Widefield hasn't had much luck against Coronado recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Gladiators will welcome the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Widefield is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since October 29, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to Canon City.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-19, 25-9.

Despite the defeat, Widefield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lydia Valandra had 20 digs and three aces. Those 20 digs set a new season-high mark for Valandra.

Meanwhile, Coronado came up short against Mesa Ridge on Tuesday and fell 3-1. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Grizzlies recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

The final score came out to 25-20, 25-14, 20-25, 25-22.

Coronado's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Widefield, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-4.

Widefield might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Coronado when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Gladiators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
