Softball Recap: Chalker Victorious

Chalker posted their closest win since April 2nd on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Maplewood Rockets 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Rockets back in April, they had to take a 1-0 defeat.

Tatum Hudak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Katelyn Cook, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Bailey Ann Bussey was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Chalker is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Maplewood, with the loss, they broke their 23-game winning streak and moved their record to 23-2.

Chalker and Maplewood are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Wildcats will challenge Cardinal at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Chalker's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Maplewood, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Rittman at 5:00 p.m.
