Volleyball Recap: Brooke Schaefer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fleming over Merino

After flying high against Cheraw on Saturday, Fleming came back down to earth. The Wildcats lost 3-0 to the Merino Rams on Tuesday. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

While Fleming was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Merino's winning margin in every set. The final score came out to 25-15, 25-22, 25-23.

Fleming lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Brooke Schaefer, who had 27 digs and two assists. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayley Chamberlain, who had 18 digs and 17 assists.

Fleming's defeat dropped their record down to 19-3. As for Merino, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-2.

Coming up, Fleming will challenge Caliche at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Merino, they have already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Prairie on the 30th.
