Baseball Recap: Westfield Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Westfield ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cranford Cougars, sneaking past 4-2. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.

Westfield got a great performance from Logan Revock as he struck out eight batters over 7.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Revock a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew DiGregorio, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Liam Sullivan was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Westfield's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Cranford, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westfield will host Governor Livingston at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Highlanders will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cranford, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Union Catholic at 4:00 p.m.
